Title :  The intelligence of emotions: a rereading of the foundations of "emotional intelligence"
Author(s) :  Felipe, Artaza Abaroa
Abstract :  Contemporary research about the role and significance of emotions has been increasing in differents fields of business administration; at the same time, Goleman’s research about Emotional Intelligence has been succesfully acknowledged. Since our viewpoint, his conceptualisation is weak. A deeper undernstanding of the concept of emotion should replace his propositions and could replace the Emotional Intelligence concept in the research in business administration.

Title :  Fear and defense reactions, valuable indicators
Author(s) :  Catherine, Aimelet-Perissol
Abstract :  The need to be coached sheds light on a difficulty to progress, which is felt like a threat, thus generating a reaction of defence – in other words, an emotion. Such a reaction is automatically ascribed to the event that triggered it off. Actually, the emotion reflects a deficit in satisfying one’s basic needs in the situation experienced: In fact, the emotion is not caused by the event itself, but by the individual’s limits regarding his ability to satisfy his needs in such a situation. It is thus essential for the coach to know how to decode the message contained in the emotion, or else, he may not catch the message appropriately and also become emotional! Emotional Logic introduces common sense and enables to efficiently use emotions as the source from which the need is expressed. An interpretation from a biological perspective favours a clear vision: fear generates escape and need for security; anger generates struggle and identity need; exhaustion generates turning in on oneself and need for reality of being. With the Emotional logic approach, the coach and the coached are given the means to actively progress together towards finding an answer to meet the needs, in an other way than in the urgency of a defensive emotion.

Title :  Proximity managers caught. Between the provocation of their agents and the disavowal of their superior
Author(s) :  Christian, Bourion
Abstract :  Dealing with the dynamic of provocation is a quite complex matter. Requesting information cannot be reduced to asking: “Have you experienced provocation?”. We have asked hundreds of people to relate an important event and then we have analysed whether they had suffered provocation or harassment by means of keywords extracted from the accounts. Such a method has totally changed the content of the data, since the interviewees did not know about the subject of the enquiry; however the disadvantage lies in the fact that the data collection has been spread over a ten years period. Concerning the approach of the phenomenon, it has been necessary to review all the researches carried out on how information is processed by the human brain. To learn how to control such situations, we have used a triple loop modelling, with behaviour management placed in the third loop, which implies that managing the first two has been attained.

Title :  Practices of sanctions-rewards. In the framework of Public Management and Corporate Social Responsibility
Author(s) :  Françoise, Goter
Abstract :  Within the framework of their initiatives of modernization, numerous organizations of public service are in search of a model of effective management of their activities and their human resources. This objective notably incites them to look for practices of more stimulating penalties-rewards and favoring a bigger efficiency-efficacy of the actors in their activities. Through the study of the practices of penalties-rewards of the organizations of public service, we try to define the main variables of the system of penalties-rewards and to determine the conditions of development of their efficiency. Our hypothesis is that the identification of individual and collective penalties-rewards of the efficiency of the actors and their development within the framework of a structured and stimulating system are a powerful control lever to lead to more efficient organizations of public service and better insure the survival-development of the public service.

Title :  Leverage effects in the learning of local management
Author(s) :  Héloïse, Cloët ; Hervé, Saint Aubert
Abstract :  The current environment for companies is increasingly exacting, complex and doubtful. Because this environment constantly develops and because companies are both the authors and the victims of change, their structures evolve as well. They globally move from a pyramidal organization to an organic one. Those environmental and organizational changes lead to a modification of the roles and competencies which have been granted to the companies’ key people. The theories consideration accruing to management and leadership outline the role and competencies which are expected and consist in the ability to provoke and to lead change, to carry the sense of the action, to animate and to manage teams. With this purpose of managing and leading change or modifying the management style, new evaluation and follow up processes have been introduced: 360? feedback, coaching... Their linkage could generate a powerful individual, collective and organizational apprenticeship lever.

Title :  Emotional skills and learning abilities of leaders. The case of a French service company
Author(s) :  Cécile, Dejoux ; David, Ansiau ; Heidi, Wechtler
Abstract :  From concepts of emotional competences and learning skills, this research paper addresses the following issue: “how is it possible to identify future executive manager’s skills within a manager?” For many years, several researches, in USA, have been studying Emotional Intelligence, assessing its strengths and weaknesses for business sciences. However, in France, this is not a common research topic. Learning styles and skills have been studied for about twenty years. This article examines relationships between emotional competences and managers’ learning skills. Several research purposes are defined. The sample was composed of managers and executive managers of a French company. Evaluation of emotional competencies and learning skills was made with questionnaires. These quantitative analyses show that, on the one hand, emotional competencies and learning skills are different between executive managers and managers, and, that, on the other hand, emotional competences contribute to learning skills efficiency.

Title :  Factors of choice within an interdisciplinary management learning system
Author(s) :  Silvester, Ivanaj ; Sybille, Persson
Abstract :  This paper reports on an analysis of management learning approaches manifested through the ARTEM alliance which brings together students from three different schools of Art, Business and Engineering. In this context, business students have to select three workshops among about twenty of them. This selection provides the opportunity to collect data on the behaviour of almost one thousand of Business students. The data collected from 2002 to 2006 was correlated with other data obtained using the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument. Two clearly opposed approaches, Art versus Business, based on the left-right brain, have been identified. No significant correlations have been found between the different disciplinary approaches and the so called “emotional” brain (limbic). On the other hand, the engineering students approach does not seem to be correlated to their thinking style. A better understanding of the engineering students’ approach likely requires a methodological approach based on situational rather than dispositional elements.
