Title :  Topicality of Generation Y Untimeliness of Generation

Abstract :  Managerial studies dealing with Generation Y are based on a sociological theorization of the concept of « generation ». Indeed, would generation be defined by dates of birth, by events that individuals of the same age lived together, or by an historical period, this theorization doesn’t tell the first sense of generation : the power and the action of fathering. The article proposes to discuss the stakes of such a shifting.

Title :  The values of generation y and its implications for the management Study of individual values, organizational and welfare of a student in Business School

Abstract :  In a context that is characterized by the increasing importance of intrinsic values against extrinsinc values (Ester, Braun & Vinken, 2006 ; Riffault & Tchernia, 2002 ; Tchernia, 2005), it seems fundamental to study the inner life of the individual : his values. There has been no effort to study the nature of GenYers’ value system in France. This research is qualitative with an exploratory nature. A diverted projective technique (i.e. a letter to a friend) has been used with a panel (N=20) of Gen Y (i.e. born between 1985 and 1996) bachelor-level students to define their individual values and their perceptions of organizational and well-being values. Our theoretical contribution is that our panel of GenY students has developed a peculiar form of motivation to favor the utility of professional insertion at the expense of organizational socialization. Our practical contribution helps to reflect back on numerous Gen Y stereotypes.

Title :  The influence of personal values ??of the leader on the growth of SMEs in Cameroon

Abstract :  A large number of studies were interested on the explanatory factors of the growth of SMEs related to the characteristics of the leader, but few of these studies have considered the influence of the personnel value of the leader on the growth of SMEs. This research seeks to fill this gap by focusing only on personnel value of de leader in a Cameroonian context. Our results show that the desire for autonomy, the self-esteem and the ethics of the leader exert a positive and considerable influence on the growth of this kind of company.

Title :  Gen Y and Self Determination: an explanatory study

Abstract :  The purpose of the present study was to measure perceptions of competence, autonomy, and relatedness for Y generation. Deci and Ryan (2000) postulate that the intrinsic motivated behaviour is associated with the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. This exploratory research was to send an online questionnaire with A.N.D.R.H (on the website surveymonkey.com). The population consists of 10315 young people in universities, engineering schools, business schools, BTS, BEP, and CAP training. 2915 questionnaires have been exploited. Exploratory analyse (C.P.A analysis) was conducted with SPSS and 2915 questionnaires. These studies demonstrated an acceptable internal consistency and confirmed a two-factor structure witch revealed a relatedness and autonomy attitude. However, the perceived competence result in a rather negative assessment of them.

Title :  Generation Y paradoxe: Give everything, sacrify nothing

Abstract :  This paper deals with the relationship between job satisfaction and generational diversity. It focuses on three populations of employees in terms of generation (Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y) and shows that employees from Generation Y are different from baby boomers ones. Especially, the study shows that generation Y considers to be more satisfied with working conditions and pay than older workers. They have more autonomy, better relationship with their hierarchy and colleagues, less uncertainty about dismiss and finally they more interested in their job. The statistical analysis performed with SPSS, is based on a sample of 18.536 respondents employees of companies with more than eleven employees, representative in terms of size and sector, upon the well-known 2011 DARES’s “Reponse” survey.

Title :  Career success among engineers: Are there differences between generation X and Y ?

Abstract :  The engineers are a highly skilled population sought by companies which are aware by the need to retain them in order to maintain their competitiveness on a more and more competitive market. That is why studying them is an important issue for companies. This research aims to study the socio-demographic, professional and individual characteristics influencing career success among engineers X (35-50 years) and Y (24-34 years), and to highlight differences between these two cohorts. For this, we have a sample of 758 employees graduates of top French engineering schools and use a methodology for analyzing interaction effects. The results confirm the link between the objective and subjective career success and identify the differences in perceptions and expectations of engineers X and Y in career matters.

Title :  Retaining Gen Y Managers: an Exploratory Study of a Graduate Program

Abstract :  Given their consistent deployment on the job market, the weak loyalty assigned to the Ys represents a major stake which questions the HRM practices. In particular, an adaptive human resource management must take into account the new rules of the organizational game – through understanding its Y actors – in the perspective of an in-context retention. How must the “Y Generation” phenomenon be understood for human resource management ? This qualitative and exploratory work proposes to study the expectations of future Y managers involved in a graduate program and who will hold managing positions. The hermeneutic approach is distinct from the classic quantitative, empirical procedures used for that topic which mainly conclude to the “generational myth”.

Title :  Managing the generation transition in psychiatric hospitals From diagnosis to action plan

Abstract :  In the Ile-de-France region, retention of nurses is a crucial issue for psychiatric hospitals. As many nurses specialised in psychiatry retire, psychiatric services are considered unattractive by young nurses who prefer technical activities. In addition, labor turnover is high among young nurses. How to manage the transition between nurses’ generations ? We identify the main determinants of the nurses intention to leave highlighted in the literature. We mobilize a methodology of action research. In two psychiatric hospitals of Ile-de-France we hosted multidisciplinary working groups. The diagnostic was co-constructed with the participants. We identified three categories of factors specific to these establishments : increased workload, loss of meaning of care, transfer of skills and new nurses integration practices. We present the action plan elaborated after this diagnosis and the difficulties to overcome in forthcoming steps of the action-research.

In the first part we analyze the main features that characterize « Generation Y » then we’ll see with an exploratory analysis in the field of accounting, how this generation could be a new start in this profession wants changing.
