Résumé : |
The need to be coached sheds light on a difficulty to progress, which is felt like a threat, thus generating a reaction of defence – in other words, an emotion. Such a reaction is automatically ascribed to the event that triggered it off. Actually, the emotion reflects a deficit in satisfying one’s basic needs in the situation experienced: In fact, the emotion is not caused by the event itself, but by the individual’s limits regarding his ability to satisfy his needs in such a situation. It is thus essential for the coach to know how to decode the message contained in the emotion, or else, he may not catch the message appropriately and also become emotional! Emotional Logic introduces common sense and enables to efficiently use emotions as the source from which the need is expressed. An interpretation from a biological perspective favours a clear vision: fear generates escape and need for security; anger generates struggle and identity need; exhaustion generates turning in on oneself and need for reality of being. With the Emotional logic approach, the coach and the coached are given the means to actively progress together towards finding an answer to meet the needs, in an other way than in the urgency of a defensive emotion. |
