In this article, we put forward the effectiveness of a near forgotten pedagogical device, the critical incident. Though it may look simple, its purpose is to bring back into the classroom the organizational day-to-day experience. Built (or written) with esthetical preoccupations in mind, its intent is to open a space in our programs for our students (or seminar participants) ontologies. Doing this, we attempt to strike a better balance between the present strong focus on concept learning and application on the one hand, and people’s capacity to learn something about themselves through the emotions that the critical incident usually stirs on the other hand. We share our own experience with this device, along with several tips on producing such learning instruments. |
